Rev Jonas Clarke Powder Horn

This Revolutionary War style powder measures measures 10 1/2" on the outside curve and has a turned American black walnut butt plug that measures 2-1/8" in diameter. The body of this horn is an aged yellowish brown. The buttplug is pinned with 4 hardwood pegs. It has a bottleneck shaped spout and a tapered spout hole. The buttplug is carved and has a metal staple for strap attachment. It is a right side carry horn and is initialed and dated.

The quote, "Recognize No Sovereign but God and No King But Jesus Christ" is attributed to the Reverand Jonas Clarke on Lexington Green on the day the "Shot Heard Around The World" was fired, April 19, 1775, and the Revolutionary War went from spoken words to armed insurrection.
